What can I do to be ready for the year?

  • Watch the Webinar titled “A Closer Look at the BIM Website”. (Highly recommended before doing anything else)
  • Print out tests and quizzes if you use them, and record and practice journal.
  • Print out record and practice journal manipulatives.
  • Place a hard copy in a file so that you do not have to re-print.
  • Place copies in a file for student use.

How do I use the Big Ideas Math online tools?

How do I use the student and teacher textbooks?

Is there a whiteboard interactive program that I can use to teach my lessons?

Yes, and it includes “Start Thinking”, “Warm-Ups”, online manipulatives, additional examples, the record and practice journal, the textbook, interactive activities, mini assessments, the Answer Presentation Tool, and closures. You can find it under the “Dynamic Classroom” section in teacher resources.

Do I need to have a whiteboard interactive program to use the resources on my projector?

No. If you look under the “Dynamic Classroom” in teacher resources, it will work for you as a delivery tool even if you do not have a whiteboard interactive program.

What is the Record and Practice Journal?

The Record and Practice Journal is a print-out of the activities in the first part of the section of each lesson of the Student Edition and Teacher Edition. The difference is that it leaves room for the students to write their answers on it, and aids in the activity process.

Where can I find the Record and Practice Journal?

You can find it under the teacher resources where it says “Record and Practice Journal”.

Please note: The answer key is found at the very end.

Is there a solutions guide to the problems in textbook?

Yes, under the teacher resources, click on “Worked-Out Solutions”.

 

How do I know which resource belongs to each chapter?

If you click on “Chapter at a Glance”, it breaks down all of the resources needed by chapter.

What technology features are available for my students?

Games, tutorials per lesson, online practice quizzes and tests, and the student ebook are available for computer and ipad use.


For games:

Go to http://www.bigideasmath.com/students/ and click on My Dear Aunt Sally. (Also available in on the ipad in the app store.


For tutorials:

Step 1: Click on the “Students” tab

Step 2: Click on “Go”

Step 3: Select your textbook by clicking on it. Your screen will look like this.

Step 4: For practice tests, click on the chapter you desire.

Step 5: Click on the section you desire.

You will now see the lesson tutorials, and can use them as needed.


For online practice quizzes:

Repeat steps #1-4.

Once you have reached step 4, your computer screen should look like the one below.

Click on the quiz desired, and then select “Progress Check”.

A screen will pop-up with the quiz, and the student can now take a practice quiz online

with immediate results.


For online practice tests:

Once you have reached step 4, your screen should look like this:

Click on “Chaper Test”, and then select “Test Practice”.

A screen will pop-up with the test, and the student can now take a practice test online with immediate results.

Where can I find learning center resources?

Go to “Game Closet” under the teacher resources. (Please note. These centers will need preparation ahead of time).

How can I bridge the gap when starting the series?

If you go to http://www.bigideasmath.com/students/ and click on Skills Review Handbook and Basic Skills Handbook, students can practice specific concepts of math and check their answers at school or at home.

Where can I find extra practice for my students?

Click on “Resources by Chapter”, and you will find extra practice for each section.

How do I know which resource to use per chapter?

In the teacher resources, click on “Chapter at a Glance”.

How do I know which materials I need per chapter?

In the teacher resources, click on “Complete Materials List”.

Where can I find the answers to the online materials?

The answers are always at the the end of the section where you find the materials. For example:
