The graphic designer supervises and implements the majority of the graphic design needs of the university and is a key member of the creative team that oversees all marketing and communication activities for Southern Adventist University. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Directs or creates the design of all print communications handled by Marketing and University Relations and manages those projects to final production. 2. Assists the eCommunications Manager with the graphic design themes of non-print communications. 3. Serves as layout editor for the university magazine, Columns. 4. Hires, trains, and directs student employees in graphic design. 5. Oversees the photography needs of the office including hiring, training, and directing student employees in photography. 6. Maintains and monitors the use of the corporate university visual identity system, and assists departments with the application of the system. 7. Assists in facilitating internal and external campus communication for all of Southern’s audiences. 8. Assists in creating long-term messages and graphic design concepts and themes based on the key messages and the university mission. 9. Carries out other marketing and public relations initiatives as necessary. 10. Performs special assignments as requested.

Experience

A thorough knowledge of graphic design, web design, and printing processes, as well as communication theory, ethics and practice. Up-to-date technical skills required, with Mac OS X familiarity and expertise in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to work under pressure in fast paced, deadline-driven office and to work in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and external publics. Writing and editing skills are important. Attention to detail is a must. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Education: Baccalaureate degree in visual art, graphic design, marketing, public relations, or communications preferred. Experience: Three years of graphic design experience in a professional work environment preferred. At least one year of art direction experience is also preferred. Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and an Adventist church member in good and regular standing.
